Awesome! I think one of the reasons that young people are leaving the "church" in droves, is because they have not been reared in the church. Instead, they have been kept away, in Sunday school, Childrens church and youth church. No where in Scripture does it say that the Church is responsible for teaching the Children. It certainly mentions the parents having that responsability. ANd I firmly believe that children need to partake in their parents example of being an integral part of the body of Christ, rather then being shuttled off to what is, for lack of a better term, Sun-Day Care.
How many parents can say that they truly know what their child is being taught, other then the little coloring page or craft that they bring home?
Funny thing is, the same argument can and should be made for homeschooling as well.
"Children should be seen and not heard" No it's children should be neither seen nor heard. The bigger the church the more complete the age separations. Our old church of 1200 had children separated in different rooms the whole church time.
Age segregation is all seen as good. They can learn better. It's for everybody's benefit. It's corban - dedicated to God. Unfortunately it "nullifies" God's commands for the sake of man's traditions. Mark 7.
In institutionalized forms of church, it's adults that should be "seen and not heard". Only the clergy folks do 99% of the personal expression of truth. God designed ALL saints as a "holy priesthood" who would "proclaim the glories of Him who called us out of darkness into light..." Church gatherings should be organized / designed for participation by all who have prepared. "Let us consider how we can spur one another... not giving up the habit of meeting as some is... Heb. 10:24,25 This can be done "decently and in order" 1 Cor. 14:26-40.
Institutional forms of church are cemented in one-way communication - lecture said to be preaching - a Biblical word. The Bible no where says that preaching or teaching is lecture - no questions - no participation - no objecting. In fact every description of what is supposed to happen when saints gather refers to one another communication. This is mutual, interactive and heart to heart.
Intergenerational, one another focused gatherings of saints best happens in small groups, the size of which that would fit in a home. Our fellowship has 23 kids and 12 adults in the room. The children are full participants. What a blessing to obey God's Word and see the fruit that grows. No that's 24 kids. One more was born 2 days ago.
I call it 100% church. 100% of the giving goes out the door. No pooling of $. 100% two-way communication. No lecture. 100% mutual relationship. No power pyramid with titles. 100% participation by all. No expert pedestalizing. 100% members of one another. Jesus is the head.
