Alan Knox pointed his readers to a great series of posts by Sol Stallings. He started off his first post with this:
Most of us want more than a meeting (although some may not). Sadly, my church life has not been much more than that… just a meeting. The great thing is, there has already been a lot of change in the right direction. Coffee breaks, donut runs, dropping in with cookies, things that, the more I do, the more I want to do, and the more I want to be around God’s people. Once a week is just not enough anymore.
I get that brother. Once or twice a week is simply not enough time. If we truly love the saints and we don't want to forsake assembling ourselves together, why would we permit an artificial barrier to that fellowship by restricting it to one or two formalized meetings where we don't really interact much anyway?! It boggles the mind that many people think that if you don't sit in a pew for an hour, you are forsaking the assembly of the saints but don't see a reason to spend more than an hour with the church.
I love that the series is not Sol telling us what he thinks but an online conversation that pulls from other blog posts and comments from readers. What a great way to get ideas! Here are the posts.....
•Starting with a Meeting
•We Want To Get Together
•Family… Not “Church”
•A Family… With A Purpose
•Don’t Over Think It
As we get settled in, I am less interested in starting a "house church" than I am with getting to know the church in our area in whatever context we can and then spending time with them which likely includes meeting in their houses or ours. Give Sol's series a read and especially the comments!
