Skipped "going to church" today. Our friend James came over around noon and stayed until around 5. We broke bread and drank (non-alcoholic and fizzy) wine in commemoration of the last supper, observing the Lord's Supper without the benefit of an ordained pastor who knows Greek, a table with "Do this in remembrance of me" on the front and out of regular glasses instead of little plastic disposable cups. We opened the Word, we prayed, we had lunch, we fellowshipped.
Is that a rebellion against the authority of the local church or is that simply Christians gathering, assembling together in a simple, but Christ honoring way?

Just think...we can even do it again next week....and there's no need to take a vote....
Now why would you call it rebellion?
We have done this in our home with other believers on occasion. Just can't find anyone that wants to stick with it.
A "church" should never stand in the way of obeying explicite commands in the Scripture.

I was being a little smarmy there. There are some who would assume that if you don't go "to a church" you are forsaking the assmebling together. I don't buy into that obviously.

I don't like where you're from, but do like that you're going along the same Theological road as I. Been on that one about 50 years. My Bible describes Christianity without prefixes like "Re...", "Ca...", and without the Galatianism which many of our kin add.

I think by leaving "the church" you may perhaps be leaving the largest mission field in America.
I was saved in a church as an assistant pastor. These people are no more easily converted than homosexuals. They need the gospel too. They need to see true Christianity modelled for them and true love spoken to them.
Perhaps, but let's not call it "the church". You know as well as I that many of these meeting houses are full of unbelievers and the Gospel is not being preached. There is a major disconnect when we see the institutional church as both a mission field and the embodiment of the Bride of Christ.
BTW, I am not leaving the church, at least not at this point. This is more of a learning process for me.

I liked graham, and that is where we likley would attend if we go that route when we get up here (even though the building is really confusing to walk around, I got lost several times in one visit)
