And they're off!

The first major salvo in a new assault

Newsweek has jumped out front with the first major attack on the passage of Proposition 8 in California in a new article The Religious Case for Gay Marriage. I read through the entire article, as painful as that was, and it makes so many false assertions and logical fallacies that it makes the head spin. Rife with mockery and unsubtle innuendo, this ideological hit-piece dressed up as journalism is as intellectually defensible as the moon being made of cheese, and yet it will be given a great deal of credence among many in America simply because it appears in what once was considered to be a legitimate news source.

At least we are spared (this time) from the suggestion that Christ Himself was a deviant, or the less offensive but still ridiculous claim that the centurion's servant healed by Christ was the centurions gay lover. I will refer the reader to Dr. Mohler’s blog to point out the full idiocy of this argument from Scripture. In short order he dismantles the entire superficial argument. Really, you can make arguments in favor of gay marriage, but you simply can't make them from the Bible.

What this amounts to is nothing less than a full scale assault by the secular left elites. As Dr. Mohler points out, the media establishment is embarrassed by the passage of Prop 8. In their breathless enthusiasm for Barack Obama, Prop 8 was lost in the shuffle or perhaps it was assumed that the “enlightened” voters who elected Obama would of course shoot down Prop 8. Having been proven wrong on that account, we can expect a litany of similar stories all aimed not at balanced debate but at drowning out the real argument by casting the opponents of homosexual marriage as Bible thumping Neanderthals and indistinguishable from supporters of racism/anti-Semitism.

Tragically, so much of the church going population of America is so Biblically illiterate that they will hardly realize what sort of pseudo-intellectual shenanigans are going on here. Befuddled by these sorts of diatribes that intersperse random text of Scripture with mockery of that same Word and accusations of all manner of social ineptitude, it can be easy to see why so few in America are equipped to defend Biblical truth. Of course the sad truth that a large percentage of the church going population are as lost as the anti-Proposition 8 protesters and the authors of this Newsweek article doesn’t help. I guess I shouldn’t expect people who are lost to really dig into and believe what the Word says.

Watch and see, this is just the beginning...
