More on teaching and sound doctrine

Great minds think alike. So do Alan and I. He posted something this morning on the place of teaching in the gathered church cleverly titled The place of teaching when the church gathers. Alan makes the point that teaching is much more than transferring information...

...teaching in Scripture is not about sharing information but above demonstrating how to live for Christ and helping others live that way of life. Obviously, very little can be demonstrated while teaching during church gatherings.

I think that is very true and yet we place so much emphasis on formal church gatherings. Check out Alan's post, I think he makes some important points about the disconnect between formal teaching in the church versus demonstrating lives to be imitated.
