Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God. (Philippians 1:27-28)
Paul desired that the church in Philippi would live a life worthy of the Gospel. What did that look like? They would stand firm in one spirit and be of one mind, striving side by side for the Gospel. Can you think of any decent sized town or city anywhere in America where the church could be described like that?
If not, isn't that a problem?
If that is a problem, what should we do about it?

I can't think of a town in the UK like that either. We don't meet together. We don't even break bread together.

Do you think has to do with the state church/non-state church division in Britain? I am reading a book by Carl Trueman and he brought that dynamic up, something a bit different from what we experience here.
