Transition update

Our offer was accepted on the house we picked out (see pic at left)! The second place is, as I think I mentioned, a little smaller in terms of square footage and only four acres but the house is very solidly put together and all up to date in terms of furnace, hot water heater, roof, electrical, etc. With plenty of room for the kids, plenty of room for company to visit and a very nice, up to date and roomy kitchen it should be a comfortable place for us for a very, very long time. It is very old farm house feeling, which makes sense since it is a farm house, with lots of hardwood floors and cool woodwork but is very cozy and well made. Unlike the prior place we are not anticipating any issues with the inspection and it is vacant currently so we should be able to move on this pretty quickly.

Another cool feature is that the new house is already set up for a lot of what we want to do. There is a very large wooden barn that I am not sure what I am going to do with, a workshop with heavy electrical running to it so you can use welders or heavy woodworking equipment with no trouble, a couple of smaller barns for chickens or storage and a very nice horse barn (seen in picture to right). You can also see in the picture the raised garden beds that are already set up and there are grape arbors and fruit trees already in place. About two acres are fenced in with a nice high tensile fence and ready for critters.

We are going to be in a pretty remote area but there are neighbors across the street and next door. The little towns we are near have a large Amish presence so there will be people to buy hay from and perhaps milk until we get our cow up and running. There are some people in the area who are interested in getting involved in a house church so that is exciting and with a local network for support we should be well positioned to reach out to our small community.

The whole thing is pretty exciting!

Wonderful description!
So glad you can all spread your wings in this new home.

Now here this! You better come up with a good use for that barn, or we will do it for you, lol!

Wow! The place looks amazing. I bought a similar old place in West Michigan, complete with big ole wooden barn and a slightly newer "workshop". I don't know what I'd do without the space. The workshop is great. My boys love it. We've raised a couple of pigs each year in our barn. All those building do present maintenance headaches, but that's a small price to pay.

Are you coming from a similar housing situation, or will this be all new to you and your kids? Do you still have young ones at home? If so, they'll absolutely love having the room to roam. Hope the deal goes smoothly and everything works out for you.
