Does anyone use a separate writing/creative writing curriculum? I want to get one but I wanted to solicit some opinions first. I am consider this program Meaningful Composition. Anyone use it? Anyone use something else that they like?

The Institute for Excellence in Writing has a great writing program (and excellent customer service). Their materials work for a wide range of ages/abilities, too. You might want to check them out.
We started using Institute for Excellence in Writing last year. It is in another league price-wise. My wife is doing the instructing, but I have watched a few of the instructional videos (for the teachers not the students). It is a different style of writing instruction than I grew up with (the old opening-body-conclusion). I guess I could best describe it as a recipe-style instruction to make a student's writing "creative". I haven't seen yet if following the recipe will turn them into chefs that create their own recipes (I can substitute honey for sugar), or just cooks that follow other recipes (I don't have sugar! What will I do?). It could have the potential either way. I think IEW does a good job of helping the instructors to recognize what is missing in writing and how to teach the students their method.

Hmmm two recommendations for IEW. Looks like I need to check that out. Thanks for the suggestions!
