Once again I set the bar out of reach for the rest of my fellow husbands by buying a funtastic Mothers Day gift for my wife: a 2 year old Jersey heifer due with her first calf in about a month. Once we get her producing milk we should get 45-50 lbs of milk a day which is around 5 gallons of raw milk with super high butterfat and protein content. Cheese and butter anyone?

Well, I certainly can't compete with that!
Game. Set. Match.
Wow - that's a lot of milk! Even my super picky eater who inhales milk instead of food couldn't put a dent in that....
Debbie, we can use a couple of gallons a day but I expect to make lots of butter and cheese. We are also thinking about getting some feeder pigs to give the excess to.
Butter and cheese sound good, too!
There's a farm near us that does herd shares - people pay $30 to have a "share" of a cow, and then get a gallon of milk a week for $3.00. Can you do that, or does everyone around you already have access to fresh milk?
