Just saw this on twitter from Mark Driscoll...
Is Your Church Interested in Becoming a Part of Mars Hill?
Mars Hills wants to
assimilate have your church join their network! Glad to know that the merger and acquisition industry is ramping up, I just wish it were in corporate America instead of the church. On second thought, it is becoming hard to distinguish between the two.
We are Mars Hill. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

This was obviously a hack on their site. Mars Hill loves Jesus too much to write such nonsense! Don't worry, I have emailed them to let them know that the security on their site has been breached. I will let you know if/when they respond.

"On second thought, it is becoming hard to distinguish between the two."
Becoming????
"To become a Mars Hill church requires that a congregation legally becomes part of our church family, as it would be imprudent to inherit all the costs and legal liabilities blindly. Not every person in your leadership will keep their current role. Not every paid staff member will keep their job. Not every person in your current church will be supportive and stay. Not every ministry you are doing will continue. And you will have live preaching only some of the time and be part of something much bigger than just you."
I just don't have words to express how this makes me feel.
Dan I appreciate your dilligence. Information security is a serious issue!
Peter, if you change just a few of the words it sounds a lot like the conversations I have heard when one company takes over another one.
I think the words you are looking for are words like "nauseous" and "disturbed"
So, all I have to do is find an empty big box store, get a bunch of comfy chairs, a projector, screen, and a satellite dish, and I can have Mark stream his wisdom here. Cool. Do I have to get together my own grunge worship band?
co_heir,
Do I have to get together my own grunge worship band?
Don't be silly! You can't get a band together! Mars Hill will assign you a properly indoctrinated, er trained and called worship minister. Wouldn't want you to do anything not in keeping with the Mars Hill way. It is for your own protection after all.
Arthur,
No one mentioned this, so I thought I would. I thought this part was quite telling:
"So, if you are a senior pastor or local church board chair who wants to consider the possibility of your church becoming a Mars Hill, let’s talk.
As a side note, if you’re not at the top of the church leadership structure, please talk with your senior leadership first about this, but don’t contact us directly, as we don’t want to cause any division in your church or disrespect for senior leadership."
So, someone "in leadership" can approach them alone, and that doesn't cause any division in the church. But, if a regular ol' Christians approaches them without someone in senior leadership... well, we just can't have that. They need the approval of someone in authority...

Whew! That's a relief. Where do I sell my soul? I mean where do I sign up?
Alan, I noticed that as well. We must go through proper channels after all. That whole priesthood of all believers thing has its limits.
Man... There's a whole lot of 8th commandment breaking going on in here. What ever happened to edification of the body?
Hi Andrew,
Are you suggesting that we are bearing false witness here? If so can you point it out? Depending on which numbering system you use the 8th commandment is either the false witness or the stealing, and the stealing commandment seems unlikely.
I am not sure how quoting Mark, even with added sarcasm, is bearing false witness.
Mark Driscoll is a fool. And anyone who eats up his chicanery as somehow Christian is also a fool. The cult continues to spread.
