Who is Pelagius?

The name of Pelagius is often invoked to describe people with errant theology, and has been so overused in many circles (esp. the Reformed) and blurred to the point of becoming synonymous with semi-Pelagianism and garden variety Arminianism. But how much do you really know about Pelagius? Did you know he was British? That he was fairly renowned for his piety? Since theologians like to invoke him, it is probably a good idea to know who were are talking about. There is a great intro to Pelagius, arch-enemy of Augustine, on the latest White Horse Inn. Find out more about one of the earliest heretic and how he still influences the church today. In fact, even though the early church denied his doctrines of man's ability to choose righteousness, it can be fairly argued that while he lost that battle he is winning the war in the contemporary church (even though Christ wins in the end of course) When you listen to this discussion, a lot of what you hear from postmodern, emergent pulpits starts to make more sense and you can see where the heresy all feeds from.

For even more fun, you can watch a video that goes along with this episode on YouTube and see why these brothers have faces that were made for the radio!

Just a shame that that great Reformer Sido was not included in this roundtable.
