I hope your new home worked out better for you than the old farmhouse, and hope Paul was able to get full time with UPS, and most of all I hope you are all doing well, you have such lovely children, you are both so blessed. Nice seeing you in blogland :)

BeanBeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14484707482492844677noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6643715.post-37879501881820900202011-06-07T15:21:25.320-04:002011-06-07T15:21:25.320-04:00Art,

I prep for maybe 10 minutes a day...total.

It is seriously baffling to me. My pastor home schools his children, is a full time vocational pastor (I know your problems with the whole idea...but he does the whole shebang, though our whole church is full of teachers, preachers, hospital visitors and real Jesus disciples), cab driver, a college professor (he taught Greek to Roman Catholic monks and taught research and writing to protestant theology students this past year), and he is working on his PhD. On top of that, until last year he was the local Methodist campus minister.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6643715.post-61761837774142703812011-06-07T13:55:45.527-04:002011-06-07T13:55:45.527-04:00Arthur,

But, somewhere along the way it seems like teaching the truth trumps ministering as the Bible tells us to. I can say this without any disrespect for MacArthur, because we used to have these same priorities.
BethanyBethany W.https://www.blogger.com/profile/05849311381535204559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6643715.post-8270894619709918772011-06-07T10:03:07.660-04:002011-06-07T10:03:07.660-04:00Brian

When men talk about spending 20+ hours a week preparing to speak for less than two hours, I have to wonder what is taking so long?Arthur Sidohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03848508095612688493noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6643715.post-76688618489457320562011-06-07T10:01:14.794-04:002011-06-07T10:01:14.794-04:00Alan

I really feel that if one cannot prepare their lecture/sermon in less that 6 hours (preferably way less) then they are doing something wrong.

I translate the passage or even just read it in Greek (translate fully from Hebrew), look at the relevant historical information, regularly read primary and secondary sources, and then sometimes I'll make a syntactical diagram from which to outline the talk, unless it is topical. That's it. I then pray and try throughout the week to follow Jesus so that I can teach from knowledge and experience.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6643715.post-327686588637877882011-06-06T22:21:38.766-04:002011-06-06T22:21:38.766-04:00Man... just think how much preparation he could do...Man... just think how much preparation he could do if he could block all those distracting people out of his life.

-AlanAlan Knoxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07452247058550736803noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6643715.post-36437305169618056502011-06-06T22:15:25.036-04:002011-06-06T22:15:25.036-04:00You have got to be kidding me....You have got to be kidding me....Brianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16101269374008756754noreply@blogger.com
